EU Commission will give countries in the EU money to resettle Afghan refugees as Greece erects 40km fence and surveillance system on its border with Turkey to stop a predicted surge of asylum seekers from Afghanistan





The EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen visited a reception centre for Afghan employees of the EU who had been evacuated from Kabul.

110 Afghans and their families were transported from Afghanistan to a Spanish-based EU hub at a military base outside Madrid.

According to EUobserver, during her visit to the reception centre in Madrid, the EU president promised the commission was ready to provide funding to EU countries that help resettle refugees.

However, Greece, a member of the EU has just installed a 40km fence and surveillance system on its border with Turkey amid concern over a surge of asylum seekers from Afghanistan.
