EU hands Google a record-breaking fine of €2.42bn over the alleged manipulation of search engine results in the company’s favor

The European Union has opened its own little black book and handed Google a mammoth fine of €2.42bn, alleging that the company artificially eschewed search engine results in its favor .

The finding, which may have far-reaching implications for Google if upheld, is the result of a seven-year long probe into the company’s undisputed dominance in search engine activity across desktop and mobile devices.

The EU further alleges that Google’s position of superiority denies any real chance of competition by other search engine operators, thus breaching EU’s antitrust laws.

Google immediately rejected the EU’s findings and announced its intention to appeal the ruling.
