EU heads of State urge citizens to back Brussels elite instead of populists ahead of elections

The heads of state of 21 EU members have signed a new manifesto appealing to citizens of bloc to support the transfer of more sovereignty from national level to supranational level.

The signatories include most heads of state including President Michael D Higgins but lacks the signatures of royal heads of state as they do not involve publicly themselves in politics as a matter of course.

Italian newspaper Il Giornale reports that the letter is seen as rebuke to the democratic revolution against the EU elites taking place across the bloc ahead of the European parliament elections later this month.

The letter hits out at nationalism and Euroscepticism. Populists, nationalists and Eurosceptics across the bloc have welcomed the letter as they see it as sign of desperation.

It has been forecast that anti-EU nationalist will make tremendous gains in the EU parliament in the upcoming elections which has provoked an air or panic amongst the technocratic elite.

President of the EU Commission, Jean Claude Junker, who has no democratic mandate and is not accountable to the EU citizenry, has said ahead he will block populists and non-Europhiles from the Commission regardless of the democratic will of the people.
