EU’s chief scientist quits post, no longer supports European project after Bloc’s response to Covid-19 outbreak

The EU’s chief scientific adviser has quit his post with the bloc in protest at Brussels’ response to the Covid-19 outbreak and has stated that he no longer believes in the European Union project.

Prof. Mauro Ferrari announced his resignation and stated his disgust at the EU’s leadership stating:

“I have been extremely disappointed by the European response to Covid-19… I arrived at the ERC a fervent supporter of the EU [but] the Covid-19 crisis completely changed my views, though the ideals of international collaboration I continue to support with enthusiasm.”

The Financial Times reported.

Prof. Ferrari only took charge of the European Research Centre at the beginning of 2020 but has since become disillusioned with the EU.

Across the EU, in countries such as Italy, Spain and France, public officials have filmed themselves removing and discarding EU flags to express their fury at the bloc’s lack of help and support.

Former Deputy Italian Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has even claimed the EU is now “dead” after is woeful response to the virus.
