An FBI technical analysis of the electronic footprints left by hackers has determined that North Korea is behind the devastating cyber attack on Sony’s network.
This is the first official statement blaming the secretive country for the incident.
FBI officials have revealed that they found similarities between the tools used in the recent attack on Sony and those utilized in previous hackings originating in North Korea.
Tens of thousands of leaked emails and other sensitive materials were disclosed as a result of the hacking. The situation rapidly escalated to terrorist threats that prompted Sony to cancel the Christmas release of the movie The Interview, a comedy about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
