The first major weather system of the Atlantic Hurricane season has got a name.
Hurricane Gaston, it’s called, and it is currently sweeping its way across the Atlantic with gusting winds of up to 90mph.
According to forecasters, it may make its way towards Ireland’s shores by next week, though the path that Gaston may take remains unclear at this point.
If Gaston does strike, it will do so as a disruptive low-pressure system that may create unsettled conditions next week.
This would be the first hurricane to hit our shores in a number of years. It is likely to affect the West and Southwest worse than inland and Eastern counties, should it hit.
Stay tuned for updates.
