According to various reports Hollywood actor and former Two And A Half Men star Charlie Sheen will reveal that he is HIV-positive later today.
It is highly believed that The Wall Street star Sheen will reveal his diagnosis later today on US talk show America Today. The news of Sheen’s imminent announcement comes after people close to star encouraged him to reveal his illness in order to avoid the stigma associated with the disease.
The news of Sheen’s rumoured illness has been met with messages of support by fans on social media with many taking to Twitter show their support for the actor during such a difficult time. One supportive fan wrote: “Still a fan of @charliesheen and always will be. Thank you for being brave enough to go public. Much love and respect. #ainteasy (sic)”, whilst another added: “Man I hope Charlie Sheen’s okay!”
Meanwhile Sheen’s expected announcement comes after a week of speculation that a major Hollywood actor had been diagnosed with HIV. According to the Sun newspaper it is believed many close to the star told him to reveal his identity and “own it” in public despite his concerns that the news could define his career. The unnamed source told the newspaper: “Lots of people close to him have suggested he face this situation head-on and own it publicly.” “Obviously it would be a huge story, but the reality is HIV is entirely treatable in this day and age and shouldn’t impact his ability to work or lead a normal life.”
The source added: “It could be a game-changer in the understanding of HIV given that he’s a straight man.”
