Four US police officers have been charged with the shooting of hospital worker Breonna Taylor.

According to the BBC, 26-year-old Ms. Taylor was shot dead in her home on March 13th 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky.  In the aftermath of her death protests took place throughout America.

Of the four officers charged, only former detective Brett Hankison was present at the scene when Ms. Taylor was killed.  Hankison fired 10 shots during the raid, which took place on foot of a search warrant that was falsified between the four officers.

The three officers charged with Hankison are Joshua Jaynes, Kelly Hanna Goodlett and Kyle Meany.  The four are charged with civil rights offences, unlawful conspiracy, unconstitutional use of force and obstruction.  Some of the charges relate to the falsification of the search warrant which allowed the raid to take place.

Ms. Taylor’s family welcomed the news of the charges, with their lawyers calling it “a huge step towards justice”.
