A Garda investigation is officially underway today after a man was stabbed to death in Co Cavan on New Years Eve.
The investigation comes after the man named locally as Mark Swider received a number of stab wounds during an incident which occurred on Dublin Street in Ballyjamesduff.
Although Mr Swider a Polish national who had been living in Ireland for the past decade was taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after 9:30am this morning.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at around 11pm last night to contact them at Bailieboro Garda Station on 042-9694570.
