People in Ireland are urged to ‘avoid last minute stress’ and check passports ahead of holidays

People are being urged to check their passports ahead of the busy summer holiday season.

The Passport Service has introduced a ‘Don’t Be that Person’ campaign, using scenarios like “the groom missing his own stag do” to remind travellers to ensure their passports are valid before going abroad, reports Breaking News.

Families travelling with children are being encouraged to apply early, as processing times for children’s passports can take longer.

Helen McEntee, along with junior ministers Thomas Byrne and Neale Richmond, have advised people to plan ahead for upcoming trips, especially those travelling with children, reports Breaking News.

“As we look forward to our summer holidays, it is vital to check that your passport is valid as soon as possible,” McEntee said, reports Breaking News.

“As a parent, I understand how much preparation goes into organising travel with children, and ensuring your family’s passports are up to date avoids last minute stress.

“Many parents may not realise that Passport Online can be used to apply for children of all ages, including newborn babies.

“Families can ensure a smooth start to their holidays by using Passport Online,” reports Breaking News.

Mr Byrne said that online applications can be completed in under 10 minutes and can be submitted from anywhere in the world.

He added that more than 96% of applicants now use Passport Online for renewals and first-time applications, reports Breaking News.

Mr Richmond noted that child renewals and first-time applications typically take longer to process than standard adult renewals.

“Our advice is to ensure your documentation is prepared in advance. When applications are complete, the Passport Service can process and issue passports quickly and efficiently. To avoid disruption to your holiday plans, send your supporting documents as soon as you complete your online application. Processing times begin only once the Passport Service has received all required documentation,” reports Breaking News.
