Gardai are going to start wearing body cameras while on duty in Dublin on a pilot basis

This summer, a trial programme involving the Gardai in Dublin will see them wear body cameras while on duty, reports The Mirror.

Helen McEntee, the minister of justice, confirmed the action.

The body-worn cameras will go into full phase nationwide rollout in 2025, after being deployed live operationally since mid-2024, the Garda press office said on Saturday.

The Press Office stated: “Commissioner Harris has commented many times previously on how body worn cameras as well as being of investigative benefit will also reduce assaults – physical and verbal – made against Gardai,” reports The Mirror.

Minister McEntee said: “The crucial introduction of body-worn cameras is being accelerated through a separate proof of concept project involving the deployment of body-worn cameras in Dublin city centre,” reports The Mirror.
