Gardai charge eight men following looting incident at West Dublin Lidl store

Gardaí have confirmed that eight men have been charged following a looting incident in West Dublin on Friday.

In a statement made this afternoon Gardai said the eight men all aged between 24-47 were charged with burglar, vandalism and trespassing following the incident which occurred in Fortunestown, CityWest, Dublin.

The charges come after all eight men were arrested at the scene on Friday evening, it is understood the men allegedly used a JCB to rip down the store in order to loot a number of items including the store’s safe.

It is now expected the store will remain closed for a number of weeks as Lidl will look to repair the damage.

Meanwhile Gardai say they are currently investigating two other looting incidents which occurred in the West Dublin region, it is believed those investigations come after footage was uploaded online showing a group looting a Centra store in the Tallaght area.
