Following a week-long distribution of phoney parking citations around a Dublin neighbourhood, the GardaĆ have warned drivers, reports The Mirror.
Over the past several days, officers have received alerts about scammers putting phoney, but incredibly realistic, parking fines on cars in the DĆŗn Laoghaire region.
With a QR code at the bottom that links to a credible mirror of the local authority’s fines payment website, the phoney tickets are “very plausible” replicas of DĆŗn Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council parking penalties, reports The Mirror.
Following allegations of the phoney tickets, the GardaĆ stated they had opened an inquiry. They advised drivers to verify the ticket with the GardaĆ or their local authority if they have any doubts.
A Garda spokesperson wrote: āCould you spot a fraudulent parking ticket? This convincing fake was just one of many left on cars in DĆŗn Laoghaire earlier this week. These tickets are very plausible copies of DĆŗn Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council parking fines. The QR code at the bottom also links to a convincing mirror of the local authority’s fines payment site. We are currently investigating the matter to identify who placed these fake tickets, and to trace the payments made to this fake fine payment site,” reports The Mirror.
āIf you have any doubts or suspicions about a ticket placed on your car, please contact us or the local authority to verify it. We ask that you contact us if you have any information that could assist with our investigation into these fake tickets: DĆŗn Laoghaire Garda Station at (01) 666 5000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station,” the Garda added, reports The Mirror.
