“God rest them” – Gardai confirm the deaths of elderly couple in Co Cork is being treated as a tragedy

The tragic deaths of an elderly couple, Michael and Ann O’Sullivan, aged in their 80s, in Co Cork are being treated by the Gardaí as a profound loss.

Yesterday evening, Gardaí were alerted to an incident at a residence in Glounthaune village, approximately 7 kilometers east of Cork city, reports RTE.

A neighbor discovered the bodies of the couple at the bottom of the stairs of their terraced house around 5 pm.

While investigating, the Gardaí have ruled out foul play but remain open-minded about the cause of death, awaiting the results of post-mortem examinations scheduled for Cork University Hospital, reports RTE.

A team of Garda Forensic Scene Investigators is currently conducting an examination at the residence.

The elderly couple was well-known and respected in the local community, and prayers were offered for them during Mass this morning, reports RTE.

A local resident expressed her deep sorrow, stating that the deaths were a significant tragedy, especially in a close-knit community like Glounthaune.

“I can only imagine the nightmare this news must have brought to the family. It’s every family’s worst nightmare. May they find peace in the afterlife,” she said, reports RTE.
