There was good news for tenants and mortgage holders this afternoon as the Government approved an increase in rent supplement and housing assistance payments by up to 35%.
The new measures which have been welcomed by government ministers will see the state spend an extra €55m per year to assist those who cannot meet their rent and mortgage payments.
The new bill was introduced by the Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar and Housing Minister Simon Coveney this morning. The new measures are said to have been introduced in an effort to aid the current homelessness crisis.
