A current Government TD has heavily criticised the the HSE of their handling of maternity services at Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise. Fine Gael TD Regina Doherty has accused the department of a “systematic intentional cover up”
The news comes as the Oireachtas Health Committee has been hearing testimony from parents of babies that died at the hospital in recent years. It is understood that the Director General of the HSE is expected to appear before the committee later today.
Fine Gael deputy Regina Doherty has said that she is deeply ashamed at the treatment of people by the HSE. Ms Doherty said: “The systems failure and the processes failure would be bad enough in itself if there was not a systematic, intentional cover-up over the last four years by every level of organisation in the HSE,” said Deputy Doherty. “I am ashamed on so many levels as to how people have been treated.”
