Government to introduce new legislation that will ban motorists from smoking in front of children in their cars




The Government will officially introduce new legislation later today that will see motorists being prosecuted if they smoke in their cars in the company of children.

The new law will be enforced from January 1st onwards and will anyone caught smoking in front of Children receiving a hefty fine. The new legislation was drawn up by senators Mark Daly, Jillian van Turnhout and John Crown, and will be unveiled by the Minister James Reilly and the Minister for Health Leo Varadkar will later today.

It is believed the new bill was unanimously passed in the Dáil last Christmas but took almost a year to enforce because the Gardaí wanted more time to ensure its proper application.
