A 21-month-old baby boy has thankfully been found alive at the bottom of a ravine after spending two nights alone in a forest near his home in Tuscany after he went missing on Monday night.

The boy was found when a TV reporter heard his moan coming from the bottom of a ravine.

Nicola Tanturli strolled away from his isolated home in the Apennines late on Monday evening with a massive 24-hour non stop search ensuring with widespread Italian media coverage.

In the town of Palazzuolo sul Senio, near Florence, church bells were ringing when the boy was found a mile from his home.

A reporter with state broadcaster RAI said he was walking towards the family home on a dirt road when he heard a moan coming from a ravine covered with trees and bushes.

He called out “Nicola” to which the little boy replied with “Mamma”.

The reporter stopped a car that was driving past that luckily had two Carabinieri paramilitary officers travelling in. They initially were in disbelief that the moans were that of the missing boy, but nevertheless Giuseppe Di Tommaso descended some 70 feet down into the ravine with the little boy’s head popping up to greet him.

Nicola hugged the soldier who said that other than a few scratches and a slight bump on his head, the boy was in very good health.

His family were reunited within minutes and were overjoyed with their little boy back with them once more.
