Greek finance minister resigns

yaris

Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has today announced his resignation, a day after his country voted a resounding “No” against further austerity measures.

Mr. Varoufakis outlined the reasons for his resignation in a blog titled “Minister no more!”, published this morning.

According to him, he was made aware by some Eurogroup participants that they would rather not see him at his post anymore, so he decided to quit. He had infuriated European officials earlier in the week when he accused them of “terrorism” against Greece.

He added “And I shall wear the creditor’s loathing with pride.”

The referendum result marks a decisive political victory for Greece’s radical left Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, though the country’s immediate financial future is uncertain.
