Seán Kyne has been chosen to run in the forthcoming by-election in Galway West, reports RTE.
Local members of Fine Gael cast their votes at a selection convention held in the Galway Bay Hotel, reports RTE.
Kyne, who is from Maigh Cuilinn, has represented Galway for more than 20 years, serving as a TD, Minister of State, Government Chief Whip and currently as Leader of the Seanad.
Now aged 50, he has consistently advocated for increased funding for healthcare services, transport links, housing, community amenities and the promotion of the Irish language throughout Galway West and Conamara, reports RTE.
“I am delighted to be selected by the party members in Galway West to contest the forthcoming by-election on behalf of Fine Gael. I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting voters across the constituency and continuing to use my experience to help people and to represent Galway in Dáil Éireann,” he said, reports RTE.
Tánaiste and Leader of Fine Gael Simon Harris said:
“I want to congratulate Senator Seán Kyne on his selection as the Fine Gael candidate in the upcoming Galway West by-election. The entire Fine Gael organisation will get behind Seán as we work hard to win back this Dáil seat. Seán is a hard-working, community-driven candidate with a track record of public service. I have no doubt he will serve as a tremendous representative of the people in Galway West in Dáil Éireann. I look forward to having the chance to meet the people of Galway West over the coming weeks as we set out our positive message and agenda,” he added, reports RTE.
