Health Secretary Stephen Donnelly said the advice he received was not to consider further public health measures, even though the number of coronavirus infections in Ireland is likely to be in the hundreds of thousands per week.
His comments come as the Department of Health today announced a further 5,962 PCR-confirmed Covid-19 cases.
There’s also at least 1,605 Covid-19 patients in the hospital, including 50 in intensive care.
Some 10,000 people registered a positive antigen test via the HSE portal over the past two days.
