He’ll never call a girl a boy – Enock Burke fights back ahead of appeal

Secondary school teacher Enoch Burke is due to appeal in Athlone on Friday against his suspension and dismissal from his post at Wilson Hospital School in Westmeath, reports RTE.

However, in a statement today, Mr Burke raised questions about the impartiality of two of the three people on the Disciplinary Appeal Panel (DAP).

He reiterates that they are not impartial on the issue of transgenderism.

He also said he has not yet received the materials he requested, including the documentation and audio and video material he requested, reports RTE

Burke also said he asked the DAP to request materials from the school board that he felt were critical to his case.

These include minutes from board meetings in May, June and August last year, as well as a recording of his contribution to a church service in June 2022 and screenshots of WhatsApp messages between the then-principal and the board chairman.

Burke said this material has not yet been made available to him, reports RTE.

He called the DAP’s refusal to address their concerns “regrettable, incomprehensible and unacceptable” and he said he was calling on the chairperson, Seán Ó Longáin, to address the issues “as a matter of urgency” before the hearing on Friday, reports RTE.

In his emails to the DAP, Burke said he will be joined “for support” by his mother Martina, brother Isaac and sister Ammi on Friday.
