Hero: 12-yr-old Australian boy escapes bushfire by grabbing family dog and driving pickup to safety




On Sunday, a 12-yr-old boy escaped an out-of-control bushfire in Australia by driving the family pickup truck at speed from fast moving flames.

Lucas Sturrock was alone on his family’s property when his father Ivan and brother Dale were fighting a forest fire in Mogumber, Western Australia.

When the fire, which had burnt more than 7,500 hectares, approached the house, quick thinking Lucas picked up the family dog and went to a predetermined meeting point in the ute.

But when he arrived, the flames also threatened the meeting point and the young boy had to drive away from the area to remain safe.

Ivan and Dale returned and found that Lucas was missing and reported the case to the authorities.

Luckily, the local firefighters managed to locate the child, and the police then met with his family and reuinted them. The young boy has been called a hero down under for his quick thinking actions.
