Holland’s National Institute for Health (RIVM) has started much debate after it asserted that there is no proof that face masks are effective in slowing or preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus as top scientists warn that masks may even be detrimental in the fight against the virus USNews reported
The top scientific advisors to the Dutch government has said that having examined key data and research, have declared there is no firm evidence to back the use of face coverings the Daily Mail reports.
“Face masks in public places are not necessary, based on all the current evidence,” said Coen Berends a spokesman for the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.
“There is no benefit and there may even be negative impact.”
While some local authorities in Dutch cities have order the wearing of face coverings these pronouncements have been largely ignored in the bustling metropolises of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
