The Spanish city of Barcelona is witnessing some of the largest popular protests in its history, after hundreds of thousands took to the streets to show their support for the nine people jailed for their involvement in 2017’s failed independence bid.
Today was declared as a day of general strike in Barcelona as a show of solidarity.
This is the fifth consecutive day of protests in the city.
The demonstrations have caused the cancellation of dozens of flights and the postponement of at least one major football fixture due to ‘security concerns.’
