In a ‘Nightmare scenario’, pubs may remain shut in Ireland until at least the start of 2021

Who doesn’t enjoy a few drinks on a nice summer’s day, either alcholic or non alcoholic – it’s an enjoyable thing to do. Well, it appears as though it won’t be happening in summer 2020.

A ‘nightmare scenario’ could keep pubs shut past Christmas and New Year’s, and reopen sometime in 2021, according to the Irish Mirror.

This is the prospect faced by the pub industry in Ireland, after Minister for Health Simon Harris said that pubs might not be able to reopen until an effective vaccine for Covid-19 is found and made widely available. A vaccine is not expected to be developed for at least 12-18 months, if at all.

Some 50,000 staff working in the industry have been temporarily laid off, with many fearing they will have no jobs to come back to if the 2021 opening date comes to pass.

Publicans are now calling for a bailout scheme so pubs can remain afloat.
