At the request of French authorities, Interpol has issued a “Red Notice” search order for Mohamed Amra, also known as “La Mouche” (The Fly), an escaped French prisoner, reports RTE.

A day after Amra’s accomplices killed two prison guards at a toll booth and fled the scene with him, hundreds of police officers spread out over northern France in a major manhunt for him.

In the incident, three other prison guards suffered injuries, one of them is very ill.

A red notice is an international call to law enforcement to find and apprehend a person who is sought, reports RTE.

According to court officials, Amra, 30, has a lengthy record of convictions for violent offences, dating back to when he was just 15 years old.

According to Paris head prosecutor Laure Beccuau, “he is very well-known to the judiciary,” she said to reporters.

According to a second, anonymous source close to the case, Amra is accused of orchestrating drug-related homicides and has strong ties to organised crime.

Another unnamed source claimed that Amra is the head of his own network of narcotics traffickers, reports RTE.
