Three women have died after getting into difficulty in the sea off the coast of Brighton in England in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were alerted after concerns were raised for the welfare of the women, who were believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age and had first been spotted near Brighton’s Palace Pier before drifting toward the marina, reports The Mirror.
The bodies of all three women were recovered from the water near the Black Rocks car park on Madeira Drive. Sussex Police Chief Superintendent Adam Hays confirmed at a press conference that the force’s priority was to identify the women and contact their next of kin.
Police indicated the women may have entered the water from the beach near to where they were discovered and got into difficulty, reports The Mirror.
Chief Superintendent Hays said he understood the impact the tragic incident had on the local community and more widely. The beach was reopened just after 7pm on Wednesday evening, though police confirmed that investigations into the exact circumstances of the deaths were continuing, reports The Mirror.
