Investigation underway after a woman is allegedly assaulted for wearing a skirt in France

Police in France have begun an investigation after a woman was allegedly attacked for wearing a skirt in public.

It is understood that the investigation comes after the woman was allegedly attacked by three men in Strasbourg last Friday.

Speaking to France Bleu Alsace radio, the alleged victim identified as Elisabeth, 22, said she was attacked by the three men after they called her a whore for wearing a skirt.

Elisabeth told the station that the men proceeded to assault her with two of them holding her whilst the third man punched her in the face.

The shocking incident which has caused uproar on social media was apparently witnessed by a number of bystanders who failed to intervene.

The incident has now led to junior interior minister in charge of equality issues, Marlène Schiappa, to call on the public to report such incidents to police.

Schiappa’s comments come as France has seen a rise in cases were women are being harassed and assaulted over their choice in clothing.
