An investigation is underway after the mother of a newborn baby was found dead at Cork University Maternity Hospital.
The investigation comes after the woman aged in her 30s was reportedly found dead on the floor with her baby beneath her.
It is believed that the baby is in serious condition following the incident and is currently undergoing treatment.
Although the exact cause of the woman’s death has yet to be determined, it is understood that the incident is being treated as an accident.
It is reported that the woman suffered a medical issue whilst breastfeeding her baby which is thought to have been born at the weekend.
Those investigating the incident say they are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination in order to determine the cause of the woman’s death.
