Ireland set to avoid the worst effects of Storm Miguel, but weather will remain unsettled throughout the weekend, with bright periods mixed with heavy rain

Ireland will avoid the worst effects of Storm Miguel, but the weather is forecast to remain quite unsettled throughout the weekend.

Storm Miguel is expected to hit the UK hard with torrential rain and gale force winds across central and southern parts, while the east coast of Ireland is likely to experience the tail end of the storm.

Elsewhere in Ireland, the weekend weather will be bright with showers developing at times, and temperatures reaching 17C at best.

Early indications are for an equally unsettled start of next week.
