If she was watching last night’s Tonight Show on Virgin Media One, then Mary Lou McDonald’s ears must have been burning.
The panel, including Aontu and former Sinn Fein TD Peadar Toibin, spoke about the immense pressure McDonald is under considering the atrocious election results that Sinn Fein had in the local and European elections two weeks ago.
Sinn Fein got hammered in Dublin’s north inner city, an area that McDonald herself canvassed for years.
The real hammering came as Liada Ni Riada, a former MEP politician and Presidential candidate, lost her seat to the Green Party after a very long recount.
It’s not yet known but it looks more likely after this election that a General Election will happen sometime in the Spring of 2020 and that will tell the real story of the state of play for all parties and their leaders.
