Irish couple on board cruise ship near Japan told to stay in their cabin due to concerns about cononavirus

An Irish couple onboard a cruise liner has been told that they cannot leave their cabin for the time being, due to concerns about a coronavirus outbreak on the ship.

The couple, believed to be from Co. Meath, is among thousands of passengers currently onboard the Diamond Princess ship, which is anchored just off the port of Yokohama in Japan.

It is understood that no fewer than 20 passengers have already tested positive for the virus.

All passengers and crew have been told that they may have to stay on the ship for at least 14 days.
