It has been confirmed that some Irish citizens are among those hurt in the bus crash that killed thirteen Erasmus students in Spain early on Sunday morning.

The three students involved were on Erasmus placements from University College Cork (UCC). None of the three are thought to have sustained life threatening injuries in the crash that killed thirteen others.

The accident occurred at around 6am, on the AP-7 motorway, near the town of Freginals in the Tarragona region of Spain. The students were returning from Las Fallas festivities in Valencia, heading for Barcelona. It is understood that the bus driver, who is among the survivors, lost control of the vehicle for reasons yet unknown. The bus veered hard to the left, crashed through a center barrier, and invaded the opposite lane, colliding with a car and then overturning.

The accident is one of the deadliest bus crashes in Spain since the year 2000.
