Irish weather: Major temperature nosedive on the cards as conditions take a turn

With the last of the summer temperatures expected to go in the next few days, it might be time to restock on firelighters and check that the heating system is operating properly, reports The Mirror.

After experiencing weekend highs of up to 25C in certain areas of the nation, afternoon highs today and tomorrow are expected to drop by more than 10C, with lows of 5C possible overnight.

The temperature will drop along with the onset of rain and drizzle on Wednesday, September 11, with the possibility of hail and possibly thunder, reports The Mirror.

Well-known internet meteorologist Alan O’Reilly, who runs the trustworthy @CarlowWeather account on X, previously Twitter, has stated that Tuesday night would be windy with heavy showers moving south, although bright periods will arrive later.

A spokesperson for Met Eireann said: “This morning will start off mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle and patches of mist. This will gradually clear southwards through the morning and early afternoon and will be followed by sunny spells and scattered showers from the north. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in a moderate to fresh and gusty west to northwest wind,” reports The Mirror.

“Clear spells and scattered showers tonight, most frequent in northern areas. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in a moderate west to northwest wind. Tomorrow will be cool and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers will be heavy and there is a chance of hail and thunder, particularly in northern areas. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in a moderate to fresh and gusty northwesterly wind,” it added, reports The Mirror.
