Irishman caught out in torrential rain storm in Sri Lanka welcomed in by family for “cup of tea”

Irishman John Mcananey is currently on a holiday in Sri Lanka, usually renowned for its very hot and sunny weather.

However, it appears the Mullingar man brought some of the Irish weather with him as he got caught out in a storm with torrential rain “out of nowhere”.

John told The Liberal that he went for a walk up a hill near his hotel to try to find a good spot to fly his Mavic Pro drone over the valley to get some nice shots of the valley and mountains.

He said that he was trying to find a safe spot to fly when he looked back and saw major black clouds coming towards him fast. Then it started to rain very heavy in a thunderstorm. A woman in a house shouted at him to come in to which he replied “no I’m ok, thanks”.

He got tree cover but then the storm got dangerous with torrential rain and thunder and he rain for the house.

John said that they had a great chat asking and made him lovely tea and gave him biscuits. He ended talking to the family for hours and they’re going to stay in touch. John said “it’s a nice news story and hospitality from Sri Lanka.”
