It all adds up: Inmates in the Irish prison system have collective savings of over €734k

Inmates in the Irish prison system have collective savings of more than €734k, according to the Herald.

The figure disclosed amounts to €734,117 as of October 2019.

Prisoners receive ‘pocket money’ during their time in prison, and can earn extra if they do chores or other work. Inmates can choose to spend or save this money, and any amount remaining at the end of their sentence is given to them upon release.
