Leo Varadkar has been nominated to be re-elected as Taoiseach

Fine Gael’s outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was nominated once again to hold the position, to the dismay of many who voted for other parities and Independents.

Varadkar is highly unlikely to receive enough votes in the Dail to get re-elected as Taoiseach and will more than likely resign from the position in the Aras.

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein’s Mary Lou Mcdonald’s has also been nominated for Taoiseach in the Dail by a number of TDs, not just from Sinn Fein.

It’s also highly unlikely that McDonald will be Taoiseach though, as at most, she’ll receive some 45 nominations, far short of the 80 she needs to secure the position.

Fianna Fail’s Micheal Martin and the Green Party’s Eamon Ryan were also nominated.
