Look up to the skies: Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak tonight

There will be a treat in store for stargazers tonight as the Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak tonight.

In what is an annual display stargazers and keen astronomers will be able to see between 10 to 15 meteors per hour.

Although the showers will occur throughout the week astronomers say tonight will be the shower’s peak.

It is understood that the shower occurs when the Earth passes through a cloud of debris from a comet called C/186 Thatcher.

Experts say the shower will be best visible between midnight and dawn.
