Major Garda investigation continues after arson attack in Mosque in Limerick City

Gardai say that they’ve launched a major investigation, including hate crime investigations after a mosque was the subject of an arson attack during the week.

In Limerick city, there was an arson attack on the Dooradoyle Mosque on Wednesday night between 1am and 2am.

It’s understood that some of the mosque’s toilets were burned with windows smashed and toilets now unusable.

The fire didn’t spread, with the damage contained only in the toilet area.

It’s believe that toilet window was smashed and something was thrown in that start the fire.

It’s understood that the rest of the mosque remained undamaged with Muslims still able to use the facility, just not the toilet area until it’s repaired.

Gardai say that they’re following a number of lines of inquiry into the arson attack and that they’ll be doing rounds near the mosque over the coming weeks to ensure that both the mosque and Muslims who attend the mosque are kept safe from any further attacks.
