A major incident is in progress in Monaghan this afternoon, after a mine collapse caused road closures and the urgent evacuation of at least one primary school.

It is understood that the Gypsum Mine in the Magheracloone area caved in on itself, causing the appearance of sinkholes that threatened the stability of a number of buildings.
The R179 Regional Road Carrickmacross to Kingscourt has been closed.
