Man sadly dies after being struck by bus in Galway as Gardai issue appeal




In County Galway, a man in his 50s lost his life after being hit by a bus, reports The Mirror.

Shortly after 2:00 pm on Friday, a deadly traffic accident happened on the N83 in the heart of Claregalway.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was declared dead at the scene despite the response of emergency personnel and the Gardaí, reports The Mirror.

The road has been entirely reopened after being blocked while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical assessment of the area.

The event is being investigated by the Gardaí, and they are urging anybody who may have seen it to get in touch with them.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the N83 (formerly the N17) at Claregalway, Co. Galway today, Friday, 7th March, 2025. The collision between a pedestrian and a bus occurred at approximately 2:10pm. The pedestrian, a male aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A technical examination of the scene has been conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has fully reopened,” reports The Mirror.

“Any road users who were on the N83 at Cahergowan, Claregalway, between 1.50pm and 2.20pm on Friday 7th March and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station on 091 388030, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station,” reports The Mirror.
