Gardaí and the Irish Prison Service have confirmed that a manhunt is underway after a prisoner escaped from University Hospital Limerick.
It is understood the prisoner who was attending the hospital for treatment escaped from custody at approximately 1:30pm this afternoon.
Gardaí say they are currently assisting the Irish Prison Service in their investigation.
