There was more controversy within the Dail this afternoon as it is alleged that deputy leader of Sinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald apparently called the Tánaiste Joan Burton a “wimp”.

It is understood that the comment came after row erupted between the two TD’s during Leaders Questions over plans to deduct unpaid water bills from wages, welfare and pensions. It is thought that the Sinn Fein Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Tanaiste Joan Burton if she supported the plan, but Ms Burton refused to respond.

According to sources from within the Dail Deputy McDonald then stood up and allegedly called the Tánaiste a “wimp” off-microphone as the Ceann Comhairle appealed for order from TDs within the chamber. Although Deputy McDonald’s comments were not heard by her fellow peers as there were a lot of raised vocies during the debate.
