McEntee says she’s staying put and demands order restored in Dublin following unrest

Justice Minister Helen McEntee urged anyone unsure about travelling to Dublin this weekend to do so, insisting the order was restored.

In a statement this afternoon, Ms McEntee said there was currently a strong and highly visible Garda presence in the city centre.

“It’s so important that people feel safe in our town and in our cities right across this country,” she said, reports RTE.

Ms McEntee was today briefed by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and senior officers across the city.

She said additional funding of €4.4 million had been allocated to buy more Garda cars and vans and called on the Government to unite in efforts to keep people safe in this country.

Funding will enable the purchase of 95 additional Garda cars and vans by the end of this year, including 17 highly visible Garda public order vans, 38 new fully electric police cars and 40 unmarked surveillance vehicles, reports RTE.
