Met Eireann says that Ireland might see the first snowfalls of the season next week as freezing temperatures take hold

The national forecaster says that Ireland might see the first snowfalls of winter 2019 next week, as freezing temperatures take hold across the country.

The weekend will pass relatively dry and sunny, with bright but cool conditions predominant.

Come Monday though, wet and sub-zero temperatures might lead to sleet and light snow falls on Monday night.

The north and west of the country will see the worst of the weather on Monday, with heavy showers that might turn wintry on high ground.
