A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for possessing fake Slovakian identities that were intended to help Georgian immigrants enter the country illegally, according to gardaí.
Giorgi Bazadye, aged 50 and residing in Griffith Road, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, pleaded guilty to possessing two false instruments within the State on October 25, 2017, while other counts were considered in the case.
Garda Karen Barker said that Bazadye first attracted the attention of gardaí when staff at a DHL centre raised concerns about a package he and his son were attempting to send to Italy.
The package contained four fake Slovakian national identity cards “of quite a high quality,” along with four matching fake Slovakian driving licences.
Bazadye was later arrested in 2018.
He has 79 prior convictions.
