Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen got drink-driving ban because he only had a provisional driving licence

It has emerged that Fianna Fail’s Barry Cowen received a driving ban for drink driving because he only had a provisional driving licence and not a full driving licence, RTE reported on Saturday night’s Six One News.

Micheal Martin says that he was disappointed to hear about his newly appointed Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen getting thrown off the roads being drink driving.

There’s been uproar after it emerged that the New Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen was banned for driving after being caught drink-driving.

Coward received a 3-month driving ban for drink-driving in 2016, unknown to the Taoiseach Micheal Martin.

According to RTE, Independent.ie reports that Cowen was stopped at a checkpoint and breathalysed on his way back down to Offaly from Dublin after the All-Ireland football final in 2016. Independent.ie reports that he was found to be over the limit and received a €200 fine and was disqualified from driving for three months.

Micheal Martin is said to be unbelievably angry over not being informed of the incident, but it doesn’t seem to be going away as Cowen has been forced to apologise over the matter.
