The new Minister for Health Simon Harris has confirmeed that he will intoduce a new legislation that will see medical cards being automatically given to children who are currently entitled to a domiciliary care allowance.

The much needed new move will now see 11,000 sick and severely disabled children automatically receiving a medical card without the need to go through an extensive means test.

The proposed new bill submitted by Sinn Fein was widely supported by many TD’s in the Dáil. According to Sinn Féin health spokesperson Louise O’Reilly the current system was fundamentally wrong, and thousands of very sick children shouldnt have to battle the state to recieve what they rightly deserve.

Minister Harris told the Dail, in the near future children who qualify for the allowance would not have to go through assessment or means tests.

He also said the funding would be maade available in the next budget and that all children receiving the allowance will be given medical cards in early 2017.
