There’s been mixed reactions to proposals to change the beloved Liverpool’s Penny Lane, made famous by the beatles, because of how it offends Black Lives Matter protestors.

The political correctness mob may be about to claim another high-profile victim as there is now talk of changing the name of Liverpool’s iconic Penny Lane.

The road was made world famous and earned a special place in the hearts of tens of millions of nostalgic music fans the world over due to its use in The Beatles 1967 classic song which bore the name of the road “Penny Lane”.

However, in conjunction with the recent Black Lives Matter protests and riots, revisionists have been calling for statues, monuments and other public buildings and areas associating with individuals who are connected to the slave trade or have some racist connotation to be removed.

As it happens, the namesake of Penny Lane in Liverpool, James Penny, happened to be a slave merchant who spoke against the abolition of the practice in the British Parliament.

Liverpool’s Metro Mayor, Steve Rotherham, told Sky News:

“If it is as a direct consequence of that road being called Penny Lane because of James Penny, then that needs to be investigated,

Something needs to happen, and I would say that sign and that road may well be in danger of being renamed.”

The ceaseless pandering to BLM and other leftists and Marxist groups across the Western world has already seen numerous statues being taken down, with even Winston Churchill in danger in London, but it looks as if this Liverpool street, cherished by so many, is the next target of the mob.
